We Deserved a Break Today!

24 Hours!  Yee Haw!

To borrow from the old slogan "You deserve a break today" from McDonald's, that is exactly what we got.  A break from noodles and chop sticks.  Good all greasy American fast-food cuisine!  The amazing part was that the place was so crowded.

We were wrapping up the final paperwork of the trip after Maisey's medical exam with the other family from our agency, when both the baby's were starting to fade.  We needed lunch, quickly, but the options at the hotel we're in are not inexpensive.  So we noticed a McDonald's right outside the hotel and decided for one tenth the price we could eat there.

So we went it, there were over 300 (ballpark guess) in this McD's.  Even though Guangzhou (gwahn-jo) is very western, the staff did not speak english.  Thank goodness there was a handy "photo-menu" the cashier handed me.

So a Big-Mac for Dad, Snack-wrap for Mom both with fries  and a coke, and some McNuggets for Maisey. (This is an experiment we hope goes well.)  Then the hit me with the bill 44 Yuan!  For those not familiar with Chinese currency that's about $7.00.  Whoo Hoo, fast and cheap.
Our friend's baby using a bent straw for chopsticks.

Maisey having her first bite at McDonald's
may it not be frequent in her life.

Well that was our lunch time finally something familiar!  Did I mention, and I'm sure this deserves it's own post, but there is a STARBUCK'S in the hotel!!!  Thank you Lord.  We had brewed coffee for the first time since we got here!!  For some reason outside the US the world thinks that American coffee is just espresso with hot water added.  Or instant coffee from a machine.   Oh well thanking God for some comforts of home.

  1. Nice to see you having a quick inexpensive lunch before Maisey takes a nap. Lovely couple with their daughter, very nice memories for you three.
